History and beauty fill the senses at Tanglewood. The large veranda and four huge columns of the main house will remind you of the beauty and charm of the Old South. You will marvel at the two-story stained glass window that dominates the main foyer. Once inside you will be surrounded by an eclectic mix of art and antiques in the spacious public rooms that have a European flair. You can enjoy complimentary refreshments on the veranda, back patio or by a roaring fire. You might ask for a look at the French kitchen with its fireplace and huge French copper collection. Set out on the sideboard will be home-baked goods and your choice of complimentary beverages.
Up the grand heart-of-pine staircase to the second floor foyer you will find another wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the reflection of the stained glass in the huge period mirror.
The Shenandoah Suite has a private covered balcony that overlooks Tanglewood’s lawns and secret garden. This is the perfect spot to view the Blue Ridge mountains, a beautiful sunrise or the changing leaves. This room features a king-sized Henredon bed and private white marble bath with a whirlpool tub.
The Skyline Suite is a light-filled room with a beautiful hand-carved queen-sized four- poster Century’s Chancellors Court canopy bed. The sunset views in the winter from this corner bedroom are remarkable. The oversized bathroom features gray marble, a whirlpool tub and separate shower.
The Royal Suite is a wonderfully large room with a big king-sized Jamestown Plantation sleigh bed. The room has Guy Buffet lithographs and a large Virginia blue brick fireplace where you can relax on period furniture in front of a fire that can be turned on with the flick of a switch. The large bathroom features a whirlpool tub, separate shower and double sinks with a generous walk-in closet.
For a completely different experience, you should visit the beautiful old hipped roof barn that the noted architectural firm of Cooper Lecky transformed into a luxurious two-suite guesthouse. Dramatic architecture invites you into the living room with a stone fireplace. Upstairs a wonderful two-story solarium separates the two bedrooms with a balcony that looks downstairs. The solarium features a comfortable sitting area and writing desk. In the evening a full moon is captured in the huge picture windows at the east end of the room. It is a wonderful place to catch the morning sunrise over the mountains or read a book from the barn’s extensive library.
Sarita Long and Helen Smith were best friends and had lunch every day at Tanglewood for almost a half a century.

The guesthouse’s first floor features a huge wood burning stone fireplace, a beautiful reading area with a large handcrafted oak and chestnut table and bookcases filled with the best novels. It has its own kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances and French doors open to expansive east and west decks.
